Online Turbidity Meter and Dissolved Oxygen Sensor Used by Chinese Distributors
Pi’s Sales Director Dr Rob Paramore recently travelled to China to visit our Chinese distributors and customers. Rob attended various meetings alongside Chen Jiang (Pi’s representative in China), discussing a wide range of Pi’s products, viewing installations across several applications and enjoying meeting distributors (such as Huzhou IMP Environmental Technology Ltd.) and customers.

One meeting was held at Beijing Enterprise Water Group Ltd. (BEWG Ltd.) in the Chaoyang district. BEWG Ltd is a flagship enterprise that focuses on the safe recycling of water and the protection of water ecology. Pi’s pH and conductivity flow cells have been installed on a raw water sample line at BEWG Ltd.These flow cells are kept clean using a citric acid cleaning system. BEWG Ltd. uses a function within the CRONOS® controller to automate this cleaning system, removing the need for manual cleaning which can be costly and time consuming. The automated cleaning function is also available on Pi’s turbidity sensor, TurbSense® and dissolved oxygen sensor, OxySense.
BEWG Ltd. particularly took an interest in the fact that the new OxySense S2 is not only available with automatic cleaning but also auto-verify, and invested in an OxySense S2 sensor. Auto-verify offers automatic in situ sensor verification. This is particularly useful in applications where manual sensor checking can take a long time due to a high numbers of sensors or if the sensors are remotely situated. Rob received very positive feedback from BEWG Ltd. on the performance of our equipment which has now been installed and working proficiently for 3 months.

The second meeting was also with representatives from BEWG Ltd. but this time from the Fengtai district. Pi’s Chen Jiang presented information on a range of Pi’s products including AlkaSense®, Chloribrid® and TurbSense®. This meeting led to many discussions about the various unique features of the TurbSense®. Arguably, the biggest disadvantage of other turbidity analysers is the need for a ‘factory set’ zero, which can drift over time. Alternatively, a ‘zero NTU’ sample is needed to determine the ‘zero’ during a calibration, which is almost impossible to source due to how easily the sample can be contaminated. Pi’s TurbSense® eradicates this disadvantage using patented MutoLux® technology, whereby it automatically varies the light output so that the turbidity can be measured independently of background light and electronic drift, meaning that no ‘zero’ is needed.
